Homemade Shower Bombs

Hello friends!  It’s that time of year again.  College football season, cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice everything, and beautiful orange and yellow leaves.  Okay, okay, I know it’s only August, but my neighbors did put their Halloween decorations out last night.  Yep, I’m talking orange porch lights, banjo playing skeletons, and all. We don’t have our fall décor out yet, but we have been hit with the sniffles pretty early this season at our house. My husband and daughter were both coughing all night long.  Which, for me, means I saw Every. Hour. On. The clock.  Needless to say, NONE of us got a good night’s sleep last night.

Thankfully, I spent my Sunday afternoon trying out a new DIY recipe I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. They are super easy shower bombs that consist of only three ingredients!  Baking soda, water, and essential oils.  That’s all you need to create these wonderful little disks that diffuse right into your shower!

First, I dumped the baking soda into a metal mixing bowl.  Then I added the water and mixed together to form a paste.  I spooned the paste into lined muffin tins and baked for about 20 minutes.  After my little disks had completely cooled, I added a few drops of essential oils to each one.  Voila! I even used two different oil blends to create shower bombs for congestion relief, and shower bombs to get me up and going in the morning.  Try out this recipe and let me know what you think!

Homemade Shower Bombs

1 cup of baking soda

About 1/3 cup of water

Essential oils

  1. Preheat oven to 400F
  2. Line a metal muffin tin or use a silicone mold
  3. Mix together the baking soda and water in a medium sized mixing bowl
  4. Spoon the mixture into the muffin tins, filling each cup about half way
  5. Bake for 20 minutes
  6. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the disks to cool completely (I put them on a cooling rack to save time)
  7. Add a few drops of essential oil to each disk

These make a great homemade gift, or just use them for yourself!  Like I said above, I used two different oil blends to create different uses for my shower bombs.  For the congestion relief bombs I used drops of lavender, rosemary, and eucalyptus. For the “wake-up blend” I used drops of citrus and peppermint.  You can use whatever oils you like to customize these to your liking!
